When and What to Tip at a Casino
If you're lucky while playing the slots or video poker,
you should give a couple of bucks to the change person
(especially if they pointed you to a winning machine).
-
At craps, it is always a good idea to make a wager for the
dealer(s). A dollar or two on a hardway bet is an
acceptable tip. Another way to tip is to throw a $S chip
(or more, depending on your level of play) on the table
"for the boys" when leaving.
-
At blackjack, you can tip by making a bet for the dealer;
simply place a chip in front of your bet. If you're
betting $5 to $10 a hand, a $1 or $2 dealer bet is fine.
If you are playing at a higher level, a higher bet is
appropriate. I usually make a dealer bet after I get a
blackjack, on the very next hand.
-
When I win at roulette, I will ask the dealer for his or
her favorite number and put a dollar or two on that number
for them. If it hits, he or she wins $3S. Alternatively, I
might toss a few bucks toward the dealer and say, "This is
for you," as I leave the table.
-
In keno, it's customary to tip a few bucks when you are
finished playing.
-
At restaurants, waiters expect the standard 15-percent tip
for good service. At buffets, servers usually receive $1
per person.
-
Taxi drivers are given $1 to $2 for fares below $10, and
more if they help you with your bags. Limousine drivers
are normally tipped 15 percent for their services. It's
also nice to tip tour guides and bus drivers $1 to $2 per
person at the end of a trip.
-
Valet parking attendants normally get $2 for quick
service.
Of course, all tipping is based on good, prompt, and
friendly service. If the service doesn't meet those
standards, adjust your tip accordingly. The reverse is
also true: If you receive extra service, be sure to
increase the tip accordingly. |
