Playing Online Baccarat at Online Casinos
The easiest acceptable choice is baccarat. The house edge
is just over 1 percent, and it has the lowest variance in
the virtual building, even better than blackjack. There is
no skill involved; you will know its optimal strategy
soon.
The Game
Baccarat is a card game with deterministic rules that
allow no deviation by the dealer or anyone. Players place
their bets, then watch the dealer divine the outcome by
turning over cards. There are three types of squares on
the table to bet on: the player, the banker, and the tie.
The dealer gives two cards to the imaginary banker and two
cards to the imaginary player. Then the fixed set of rules
dictate hits, and finally a winner or tie is determined.
There are some rather intricate rules for hitting and
standing and what combinations constitute a win, but you
do not need to know them. Just bet banker or player.
It is similar to flipping a coin. In fact, it is exactly
like flipping a coin because the ties come about as often
as a coin lands on its edge (well, almost). The house edge
on the tie bet is 7 percent. There, if you can restrain
yourself from betting the tie, you are the best baccarat
player in the world, but get ready to be bored into a
catatonic state. One final rule to know in order to avoid
being baffled by the payouts: the house takes a 5 percent
commission on the banker bet. This is the sole source of
house revenue on that wager. Figuring in the commission,
the precise casino edge is 1.17 percent on bank bets and
1.36 percent for player, so there's really no reason to
bet player, unless the variety excites you.
It is unfathomable why, but baccarat has the reputation of
a sophisticated game for ultra-rich jetsetters. The game
is as dumb as a stump. Baccarat is useful, however, to
bonus hustlers too lazy to learn blackjack. It can be
played quickly, because no matter how many bettors there
are, only two hands are dealt. There is no doubling down
or splitting as in blackjack, which increases the risk
riding on one event (and thus the variance). And, there
are no long-shot jackpots to wait for, as in video poker. |
