Becoming a Better Player
There are many additional things you can do to improve a
player. In fact, as a player, you have more options than
the casino has. Study the following options and try to
practice them. They will help you become a better player
and end up as a winner.
Choose the right games to play
There are good games and not-so-good games. Pick ones with
a house advantage of less than 2 percent.
Best odds: You’ll find the best odds with double or better
craps odds, single-wheel roulette, Las Vegas blackjack
rules, 98-percent slot payback, and 9/6 video poker
machines.
Lowest house advantage: Know your game, and know what are
the good odds or rules when you play.
Choose the right table or machine to play
Take the time to check out which tables and machines are
best.
Winning signs: Look for players with lots of chips,
dealers with lots of tips, and a low chip tray. Listen for
sounds of happy players; noisy equals happy when it comes
to craps, roulette, or slot players.
Casino staff recommendations: Find out what the casino
staff and locals play.
Walk and not play
Recognize when it’s better to walk than to play. You’ll
thank yourself in the morning.
Not in the mood: Don’t’ play if you don’t feel comfortable
or can’t keep your mind on the game.
Don’t like conditions: Avoid a game/casino that is
crowded, has rude dealers, offers few choices, or has poor
rules.
Poor bankroll: Manage the size of your bets based on your
total bankroll; save it for another day if you don’t have
a reasonable bankroll.
Quit After Winning The old adage
“Quit while you’re ahead” is still the best advice you can
take. The longer you play, the better chance the house
will win: The game odds are set up at a fixed rate to give
the house an advantage over the long run. Win and walk in
a short period if you want to end up a real winner.
